All people may be equal in terms of the way that we view one another as having a right to quality of life, but that does not mean that all of us face the same types of struggles as we are growing up. There are those people who can handle life in a war zone and turn out perfectly fine, but there are also others who are deeply affected by a much less externally stressful situation. Addressing the actual issues of the individual that needs help is what can allow us to transform a troubled teen into a functional young person with a bright future ahead of them. By looking into what Heritage’s philosophy states as the primary concerns for young people and how they can learn to cope better not only with themselves, but with the world around them, one can get a glimpse into the way that particular institution is changing the lives of so many teens on a yearly basis. There really is hope out there for kids who are struggling to make it to adulthood.

With the Heritage program the focus is on a very logical place: relationships. Once teens understand how their relationships with other people affect their own lives, the changes can be dramatic. When entering a youth residential treatment center there are often going to be kids who struggle to fit in, but the right strategies by which to approach them with a genuine care and understanding quickly change things for the better.
